Smirking

I’ve found myself smirking a lot this past week as God’s been speaking to me in different ways. My heart has been encouraged, challenged and touched as I’ve interacted with different people. The other day I recently had a meal with an old friend and she was sharing with me how finances were really tight due to her husband’s unexpected lay off. The way she responded to this difficult circumstance left me smirking and greatly encouraged. She said she really wanted God to use this time to teach her to find her security and worth in Him and not anything else like money. She wanted to see her faith grow. She said she wanted to experience God being more than enough for her and that her trust in God would grow through this very process. I saw such beauty in my friend’s response but more importantly, I saw Jesus in that response.

I’ve been fortunate enough to take a short break in leading a small group (until Sabrina comes back from Africa) to be part of one and it’s been so refreshing. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy being with my summer small group girls. After a long week of school, it’s like a breath of fresh air spending time with them. We’re currently going through a book called True Faced and we’ve learned a lot about being authentic with one another and taking off our masks in front of each other. I find myself smirking a lot during our meetings as I see the ladies taking risks by being vulnerable with each other. We’ve learned that by being honest and real with each other, it shows others that they too can share who they really are without having to be in fear. By putting up our masks it only causes others to do the same.

Another friend sent me an email yesterday. She was sharing how God’s been so good to her and how he provided. Not just provided but above and beyond what she expected. I knew things were really tough for her with finances but she kept praying knowing that God would provide and He did. She found an awesome job with a great group of people to work with around her age. She has a great boss and great benefits too. She waited on God and she found her dream job. I found myself smirking yet again.

To more smirking moments….

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD.”

Have a great Sunday everyone!

The small group girls that I lead. I can't believe it's already been 9 months since we started.
Here's a recent pic minus our lovely Sabrina (On missions in Africa)

Having a nice sunday lunch with my summer small group

Week 2
This particular summer session has been trying to say the least. Having to manage five classes in a short six week summer session has been making us all a bit crazy. haha. I keep hearing people sighing to the left and right of me. Keep me in your prayers that I'd have strength to get through the next four weeks.

My classmate Tiffany's group lead: Making baby mobiles with the teen girls
Wish me luck. I lead the group this Tuesday.

The girls really enjoyed this activity too. They really like the hands on activities and being creative.

Kinesiology class: Interactive learning. Jenn looks a little too happy in this pic

Any of you guys looking for a good dentist?
I've been thoroughly impressed by my dentist and the friendly staff at Designed Smiles in Brea. I've been getting my Invisalign treatments done there. I have a few 50% off gift certificate cards (for initial new patient exam/complete x-rays) if any of you guys are interested. Just let me know. I get $25 for every person I refer so it's good for the both of us.

Summer session 2 is in full swing. It's been a tough and draining first week for all of us. Wednesdays are the worst. Having Kinesiology class from 9-4 straight and having to sit in traffic afterwards hasn't been fun. I feel bad for some of my classmates because some of them have another 2 1/2 hour class on top of that. One of my classmates cracked me up when she showed up with a huge box of pizza to cover breakfast, lunch and dinner.

On Monday I got to visit Brandon for the first time in the hospital. My friend Rene (softball partner in crime...we've been playing together for years) had a beautiful baby boy.

Sound asleep...isn't he so precious?

Brandon Jongwon Yoon

My summer small group...date at Yogurtland.
Love these girls. Never a dull moment with them.

with my eeboonie stella

I'm at a new fieldwork site this summer session. We're working with teenage girls (~ ages 14-18) who are in these alternative schools. These girls are either pregnant or have young children. For our interventions class each of us have to do a group lead with them. Our first group lead was quite successful. One of my classmates led an activity decorating onesies. They seemed to really enjoy the activity. I'm looking forward to getting to know these girls better and spending the next 6 weeks with them.

Got a lil' smirk out of her. Here she is showing off her onesie

Another girl and Tessa, a T.A. from USC

Have a great weekend everyone. Until next time....

Summer Break!

Spending time in Fresno was good. Got to spend time with my parents and hung out with my dongseng Hannah

As soon as  I came back to So Cal the first thing I wanted to do was go swimming. Fresno was so hot!
My classmate Rebecca was nice enough to have Ieecha and I over to swim.

Ieecha & I running the courts after swimming

Made a trek to La Canada and visited an old friend with my buddy Saromie. Here's Ann Song's baby....His name is  Zachary. Isn't he so cute? The last time I saw him was in the hospital right after he was born and now he's walking. Time flies~
Over a year ago

Now look at the lil' runt...so cute. I couldn't stop taking pictures of him

I've never really been a big TV watcher but I've found this show quite entertaining! Cho and I made a night out of it and critiqued each of the couples

Tried a new ramen place in costa mesa called Santouka. Beth & I thought it was pretty good. The broth was tasty

Hanging out with Esther..an old La Hanmi church friend

Luau Party
We're missing a few of them in the pic but we nearly had all of my classmates come out to the party

Most of my classmates are younger than me. They all started chanting Yeaj so I gave it a whirl too. I think I'm having a lil' too much fun here
